Cereplast Receives Society of Plastic Engineers' 2009 Environmental Award
HAWTHORNE, Calif. - (Business Wire) Cereplast, Inc. (OTCBB:CERP), a leading manufacturer of proprietary bio-based, sustainable plastics, today announced that it is the recipient of the 2009 Environmental Award for Emerging Technology in Materials from the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE). Frederic Scheer, Chairman and CEO of Cereplast, will officially accept the award during the Global Plastics Environmental Conference® (GPEC) 2009 to be held next month in Orlando, Florida.
The Environmental Award was bestowed on Cereplast for its work and achievements in Hybrid Resins®, durable resins that replace a significant percentage of the petroleum content used in traditional plastic resins with bio-based materials. Cereplast Hybrid Resins®, launched at the end of 2007, combine high bio-based content with the durability and performance of traditional plastics. Responding to customer demands for a step change in sustainability, Cereplast’s Hybrid Resins® are evolving to meet the needs of industries such as automotive, consumer goods, electronics, cosmetics, and rigid packaging. The first commercial grade in the Hybrid Resin family is Biopropylene®, with up to 50% bio-derived content which represents a tremendous opportunity for manufacturers across the plastic supply chain to become more environmentally sustainable and reduce the industry's reliance on petroleum. This is the second SPE Environmental Award presented to Cereplast. In 2007, the Company was recognized for its ground-breaking work on Compostables® resins.
“We are honored to be recognized again by the SPE for our technological leadership and innovation in product development,” said Frederic Scheer. “We are also very pleased to see that the plastic industry understands the importance of sustainability and the benefits of our proprietary bio-resins.”
The Society of Plastics Engineers’ (SPE) contributions to the plastics industry for more than 60 years have made a significant difference in the technologies and innovations the industry enjoys today. The group’s 20,000-member network is comprised of leading engineers, scientists and other plastics professionals, including technicians, salespeople, marketers, retailers and representatives from tertiary industries.
