Technology
The Cereplast® production team determines a combination of PLA, starches and other bio materials for the resin.
The components are blended together using polymer modification in a proprietary Cereplast® process.
Nano-composites optimize the surface of the resin, preparing the pellets for processing using traditional equipment.
How Cereplast Resins are Made
Resin manufacturing begins once the appropriate biopolymer matrix is selected. These biopolymers include polylactic acid (Ingeo® PLA), soy proteins, PHA, PHB, or starch from corn, tapioca or potatoes.
The selected biopolymer is blended with other biodegradable components to reinforce its molecular structure through a proprietary process developed by Cereplast. The blend is then polymerized and eventually treated with nano-composites for surface optimization and further reinforcement. The finished result is in the form of Cereplast resin pellets.
